The Awakening
The Storm

Yesterday was so humid and sticky, something that we usually don't have in the Northeastern mountains. Then about 5:00 PM everything stood still and in a twitch of an eye, the winds, and the rain, and the lightening, and the thunder came.

For 15 minutes or so we watched the world around us whirl and blow and the rain was so bad, I wished I had built an ark. :) Part of our old elm tree came down with a crack and a loud thump, thank goodness it did not hit the house. We could hear other cracks and thumps throughout our community. Of course with all this activity the electric was out, and roads were blocked; for trees and wires were down all over the area.

My family was teasing that soon I would have to get on my little bike and ride with the wind chasing after the Toto dog. :) I, coming from the Midwestern area originally, kept a watch for the funnel that I was sure would appear in the darkened sky.

The thunder rolled around the mountains all night and the music from "The Hall of The Mountain King" swam through my head. And I have never seen fireworks that could come close to comparing to nature's spectacular electric show in the sky last night.

This mornings paper, which I was surprised to see, said the winds were only 60 mph but that was fast enough for me. I could not even imagine the fear and trepidation that would have entered my soul if they had been any faster.

Nature can be so unpredictable. So too, is this disease called lupus, in my life. Today, my body hurts, inside and out, and I know somehow I must have gotten hit in the nose, for the pain in my facial area and head is extreme. But I also know that for me, this will pass. I don't know when but from past experience with the wolf, I know it will. It's all a matter of time, and waiting for the storm to end.

This writing is to be included in a book about lupus. This book is being written by people with lupus. It is being written to help and encourage, give information and support to other lupus patients, their families and friends.

At some point in time, when dealing with anything, there comes realization of how it is going to affect your life. I believe, this story, was the start of my realization of how my life would now be. It was written before my pages of Embracing The Wolf, and I believe it was  my first step, in the journey, to gain  inner peace.
